I too experienced PPD after the birth of my second daughter. I had been on bedrest for 3 months, after going into labor at 27 weeks, and I suspect that led to the PPD after her birth. I didn't realize how impaired I was; our pediatrician, at a well-baby visit, clued me in by saying "Your baby is fine. You are not fine. You need help." She referred me to a wonderful psychiatrist who turned my life around, helping me to address life-long issues and ending destructive patterns that I was determined not to perpetuate in my children's lives. In an odd way, I am greatful for having had to face the darkness, but I paid a great price. My daughter also paid a price, in that the first three years of her life were not filled with joy and engagement and attachment... but we are getting help for her now, and in the big picture, I believe that her life will be better for having had a mother who faced and tackled her own demons.

Thanks, Kris, that is very sweet of you. I strive to be that "good-enough" Mom we learned about in psych class. Some days it works out....other days not so much. (And I think with twins you get to be double the mom I am!)
